UK 2014 £5 The First Birthday of HRH Prince George of Cambridge Silver Proof Coin

In the cruciform design three parts of the United Kingdom are represented on a shield. There is the harp of Northern Ireland – a symbol dating back to medieval times. Scotland is embodied in its Scottish lion ‘rampant’, while there are two shields featuring the three lions of England. Though there is no shield for Wales, the cross is interspersed with the less formal national symbols the leek, shamrock, Tudor rose and thistle. Along with the florins and sixpences of Elizabeth II, the Coronation Crown coin saw Wales represented on the coinage for the first time.
