The German Shepherd, also known as the Alsatian, is a large-sized dog that originated in Germany. Originally developed for herding sheep because of its loyalty, strength and obedient nature, it is often employed by the police and military. The coin’s reverse portrays an adult German Shepherd and a puppy in colour. The design includes the silhouettes of policemen, a helicopter, car and a dog, as well as a decorative pattern of paw prints. Also included are the inscriptions WORKING DOGS and GERMAN SHEPHERD - POLICE DOG.
