Tokelau 2013 $1 1787 Australia's First Fleet 'Departure' Silver Coloured Proof Coin

The British government needed a new penal settlement for criminals condemned to transportation. In 1786, it was announced that New South Wales on the east coast of New Holland would be colonised. On 13th May 1787, with a full complement of about 1,500 souls, the eleven ships of the First Fleet under the command of Captain Arthur Phillip set sail for New South Wales. Thus commenced one of the largest fleet operations and single migration movements of the time.
