ROMAN IMPERIAL, NERVA-ANTONINE, Trajan (the Optimus Princeps, 98-117AD), Silver Denarius (2.93g, 18mm), 'Alimenta Italia' (Italian Welfare) commemorative issue, Rome mint 112-113 AD. Obv. Laureate bust right, drapery over far shoulder, "IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC PM TR P VI PP". Rev. Annona stands facing, child to left, "ALIM ITAL" below, "SPQR OPTIMO PRICIPI". RIC 243; RSC 9. Appears cleaned in the past, rough surfaces, a nice issue referencing the Alimenta designed to subsidise orphans and poor children throughout Italy with a cash income, food and subsidized education, near Very Fine / good Fine.
