2021 50c Operation Ivanho 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Nui Le Uncirculated Coin

On 21 September, soldiers of B and D Companies, 4RAR, encountered enemy bunker systems occupied by North Vietnamese soldiers of the 33rd NVA Regiment. D Company mounted a company attack late in the afternoon and faced withering fire, which forced. them to withdraw. The Australians called in artillery to within 50 metres of their position. Throughout an anxious night, they held on, and by morning the enemy had gone. The action became known as the Battle of Nui Le. Nui Le was the Australian Task Force's last major action in Vietnam. Five soldiers died during the battle and another 30 were wounded. Operation Ivanhoe concluded on 2 October and by December 1971, the Australian task force had withdrawn back to Australia.
