This postal numismatic cover celebrates 35 years of Graeme Base’s Animalia, a classic Australian children’s picture book, renowned for its superlative illustrations and inventive concept. First published in 1986, Animalia is organised around the alphabet, A to Z, with each of the 26 detailed illustrations representing a different letter. The challenge for the child is to identify the numerous animals and objects beginning with the letter, which is also incorporated into the illustration in a short description, such as “lazy lions lounging in the local library”.
