The much-loved red-headed rascal entered the Australian comic scene as Ginger Smith in November 1921, but within months was renamed Ginger Meggs and the comic strips lead character. James Charles “Jimmy” Bancks was the creative force behind Ginger Meggs, published as the "Us Fellers" comic strip each Sunday in Sydney's Sun and Melbourne’s Sun News-Pictorial, From 1924, young Ginge was also the star of the annual Sunbeams Book: More Adventures of Ginger Meggs.
