2018 $1 Lieutenant General Sir John Monash PNC

Sir John Monash (1865-1931) is remembered as a great tactician, with a formidable intellect and will. At the outbreak of the Great War, he commanded the 4th Infantry Brigade of the Australian Imperial Force, first at Gallipoli and then on the Western Front. His prodigious military talent recognised Monash, as lieutenant general and was appointed commander of the Australian Corps. Following the signing of the Armistice, Monash - by then Sir John Monash - was responsible for the complex logistical operation of repatriating the Australian troops.
