2016 20c ANDA Sydney Queen Elizabeth 90th Birthday Machin Portrait PNC

To mark the 90th birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Royal Australian Mint has released special coins featuring effigies of Her Majesty that have appeared on Australian decimal coins since their inception in 1966. The effigy on this 20c coin was designed by Arnold Machin and features the Queen in her 30s, which was very early on in her reign. It was on 6 February 1952 that a young Princess Elizabeth became Queen, following the sudden death of her father, King George VI. The coronation was held on 2 June 1953 in Westminster Abbey.
