2016 20c 400th Anniversary Dirk Hartog Uncirculated Coin

Dirk Hartog and the crew of the Eendracht made landfall on the west coast of Australia 400 years ago with 25 October 2016 marking the anniversary. They became the first European visitors to Australia to record their visit by leaving a flattened pewter plate inscribed with details of their arrival and onward journey. The pewter plate would go on to become of distinct historic interest and was eventually returned to Hartog’s home country, the Netherlands, with a replica left in its place. The original 1616 plate remains on display in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
