While the Chinese language has a very large number of written characters, it has a much smaller number of spoken sounds. As a result, many Chinese characters which may differ in appearance and meaning, share the same pronunciation. These characters are known as homonyms. The reverse of the coin features five bats surrounding the Chinese character for 'fú', together with a mix of peonies and peach motifs. The design also features the inscription FIVE BLESSINGS and The Perth Mint's 'P' mintmark.
