“In come the dollars, in come the cents ...” augured the jingle marking Australia’s introduction of decimal currency on 14 February 1966. The impact of the new currency can hardly be overstated. It required that individuals reconceptualise the method through which they approached commercial transactions (the three-unit system replaced by two units). Renowned designer Gordon Andrews (1914-2001) created the new banknotes, and noted gold and silversmith Stuart Devlin (1931-2018) fashioned the coins.
