The story of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) is fifty years in the making. AIATSIS is an internationally renowned research and collecting institution for information about the rich and diverse cultures and lifestyles of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, past and present. This coin recognises AlATSIS’ contribution to our nation’s identity, with aspirations for: “A world in which all Indigenous peoples’ knowledge and cultures are recognised, respected and valued”.
