The Australian Capital Territory is geographically the smallest and politically the youngest self-governing mainland territory in the country. Named the Federal Capital Territory in 1911, Canberra's home territory was given its current name in 1938. After the Australian Capital Territory (Self Government) Act 1988 was passed, the territory gained self-governance in 1989 with its appointment of a Legislative Assembly. 2014 celebrates 25 years since the establishment of the Australian Capital Territory Government. The reverse, depicts the Territory in front of an evolving Australia.
