2014 $1 Megafauna Megalania 1oz Silver Coloured Proof Coin

The Megalania is an extinct giant goanna or monitor lizard that was part of a range of megafauna creatures, which inhabited Australia during the Pleistocene period. The coin’s reverse depicts a Megalania set against a coloured background. The inscription MEGALANIA and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark are also incorporated into the design. The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
