2014 $1 Bright Bug Leichhardt's Grasshopper Coloured Uncirculated Coin

The rarity of encountering Leichhardt’s Grasshopper is largely due to its isolated habitat and the effective camouflage of its dull-coloured young, which only develop their spectacular colourful appearance as an adult. The grasshopper’s indigenous name is Alyurr, which means children of the lightning man Namarrgon, who are called to bring on the monsoon at the end of the dry season.
