2013 50c Birds of Australia Regent Bowerbird 1/2oz Silver Coloured Proof Coin

The coin's reverse portrays a Regent Bowerbird (Sericulus chrysocephalus) in colour. A mature male is black with a magnificent golden-yellow crown, mantle and black-tipped wing feathers. Found in the rainforests east of Australia's Great Dividing Range, the Regent Bowerbird feeds on fruits in the forest canopy. The male constructs a decorated bower in the undergrowth to entice a number of female mates, less spectacular mottled brown birds. Females subsequently take full responsibility for building the nest, incubating and caring for the young.
