2013 $1 Polar Series Walrus Coloured Uncirculated Coin

The conspicuous tusks of the Walrus and its large whiskers set it apart from other seals. Walruses occupy shallow, ice-covered seas in the Arctic and sub-Arctic. They feed on a variety of bottom-dwelling marine organisms, favouring clams. The translation of the Walrus’ Latin scientific name, ‘Odobenus rosmarus’, is “tooth walking sea horse”. The large beast is known to haul itself from the water using its tusks as an anchor point.
