The Polar Bear’s black skin is covered by thick translucent fur which appears white. Polar Bears occupy both sea ice and land in the Arctic. They prey on seals and will occasionally scavenge whale carcasses. Polar Bears do not hibernate, but they are capable of fasting for months at a time whilst nursing their young or when sea ice, their favourite hunting ground for seals is scarce.
