Australia’s first zoo is currently home to six Orang-utans. Orang-utans are the largest tree dwelling mammals in the world and share 97% of our DNA - making them one of our closest relatives. Like the other great apes, Orang-utans are highly intelligent, they use tools such as sticks to scratch themselves and to obtain food. Orang-utans are largely solitary, and usually spend most of their time foraging in the highest canopies of the rainforest. They build nests out of leaves and branches each night in the treetops and rarely come to the ground.
