2011 50c National Service Memorial PNC

Between 1951 and 1972, 287,000 young Australian men were called up for service in the Navy, Army and Air Force. A total of 212 National Servicemen died on active service - two in Borneo and 210 in Vietnam. In 2002 the National Servicemen’s Association of Australia (NSAA) and the Australian War Memorial (AWM) agreed that a National Service Memorial be built at the AWM in Canberra. Designed by architects Johnson Pilton Walker the memorial is a dignified and striking tribute to all National Servicemen.
