2011 $1 Air Series Major Mitchell Coloured Uncirculated Coin

Major Mitchell’s are large white and pale pink cockatoo’s with a beautiful red and yellow crest. Their nests can be found in trees near fresh water in arid areas of inland Australia. This cockatoo is named after Sir Thomas Mitchell, who was Surveyor-General of NSW in the 19th Century. He said, “Few birds more enliven the monotonous hues of the Australian forest than this beautiful species”.
