With rust-coloured limbs and a striped tail, the yellow-footed rock-wallaby is one of the most striking but reclusive members of the kangaroo family. It inhabits rocky outcrops in NSW and South Australia, often hiding in caves until feeding after sunset. Currently endangered in NSW and considered vulnerable elsewhere, the yellow-footed rock-wallaby was previously hunted for its pelt, and has suffered from habitat destruction, predators and competition with feral species. Thankfully, various conservation programs have brought the population into a slow but stable recovery.
