2010 $1 Bicentenary of Governor Lachlan Macquarie PNC

Two hundred years ago Lachlan Macquarie (1762 - 1824) arrived in the colony of New South Wales. During his term as governor, Macquarie provided an important vision of the colony. He not only physically changed the appearance of the colony by building new churches, convict barracks and lighthouses, he also believed that former convicts, known as emancipists, should have all their rights reinstated and be fully restored to society.
