2009 $1 Australia Post 200 Years - Postman PNC

Former convict Isaac Nichols was appointed the country's first postmaster on 25 April 1809. From an office in his Sydney home he took charge of all mail arriving in Sydney, and put an end to people fraudulently obtaining letters and parcels from incoming ships. According to Governor Macquarie, Nichols was “a most zealous, active and useful man”. Nichols continued as postmaster until his death in 1819.
