The centenary of Scouting in Australia is being celebrated in 2008. Lord Robert Baden-Powell founded the Scouting movement in England in August 1907, when he held a highly successful experimental camp for boys at Brownsea Island, Dorset, to develop “pluck, intelligence, initiative, and a spirit of adventure”. Scouting is the world’s largest youth development organisation. There are currently around 60,000 Scouts in Australia.
