The most famous ship in the Royal Australian Navy, HMAS Sydney II disappeared on 19 November 1941 following a fierce engagement in the Indian Ocean HSK Kormoran, a disguised German raider. The coin’s reverse depicts HMAS Sydney II. A 6,830 tons modified Leander class cruiser with an illustrious battle record. The coin’s reverse includes the inscription HMAS SYDNEY II 19 NOVEMBER 1941-16 MARCH 2008 and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
