2008 $1 25th Anniversary of America's Cup Victory Australia II 1oz Silver Coloured Proof Coin with Piece of Sail

On 26 September 1983, Australia II became the first challenger ever to win the America’s Cup. After 132 years of US domination, the race for the oldest trophy in international sport was at last wrested from the stranglehold of the New York Yacht Club. The coin’s reverse design, cleverly incorporates Australia II’s revolutionary keel line, depicts the celebrated 12-metre with a coloured representation of her spinnaker bearing the famous identification number KA-6. As well as the inscriptions AUSTRALIA II, 25, and ‘America's Cup Victory 1983-2008’.
