Rising 134 metres above mean sea level, this famous bridge is Sydney’s defining landmark. As early as 1857 there were calls for a bridge connecting the northern and southern shores of Sydney Harbour, but not until 1922 were tenders called for construction. Its opening on 19 March 1932 was marked by controversy. Commemorating the 75th anniversary of the occasion, this coin depicts the moment when the two halves of the arch were joined, witnessed by the Director of Construction, Laurence Ennis, and his colleagues from a viewpoint atop the bridge.
