From 15 to 26 March 2006, the XVIII Commonwealth Games will be held in Melbourne. The first Games were staged in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in 1930. Long known as the “Friendly Games”, the XVIII Commonwealth Games, will attract over 4,500 athletes from all 71 Commonwealth nations. The coin incorporates, in a diffused and balletic manner, symbolic figures signifying the spirit and sports of the Games. The 71 figures, surrounding the Commonwealth Crown and the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games logo, represent the competing Commonwealth nations.
