2006 $1 Australian Antarctic Territory Edgeworth David 1oz Silver Coloured Proof Coin

The coin celebrates the establishment 20 years ago of the Australian Antarctic Division’s Edgeworth David summer base. The coin’s reverse design is symbolic of the site of Edgeworth David, where permanent sea ice is suitable for use as an aircraft runway. The design includes an Albatross and its chick, as well as the inscriptions ‘EDGEWORTH DAVID BASE: 1086-2006’, ‘Australian Antarctic Territory’ and the Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
