2004 $1 1964 40th Anniversary of The Last Australian Penny Silver Proof Coin

This coin marking the last Australian penny, has been designed and minted using the Mint’s advanced technology with reference to the National Coin Collection held by the Royal Australian Mint. The 99.9% copper centre of the coin features the George Kruger Gray (KG) kangaroo design which dominated the penny design for 26 years (1938 to 1964). From 1911 to 1964 the iconic penny coin was produced by mints around the world for Australian circulating currency. The design of the unique 2004 Subscription coin has captured this 53 year history.
