2003 $1 Kangaroo Selectively Gold Plated 1oz Silver Coin

The design featured on the reverse is from a sketch by Aboriginal artist, Ray Thomas, depicting ‘Jirrah-Watty’ - the Big Kangaroo - in full flight with the central motif selectively plated in gold to enhance the intricate detail of the kangaroo image. This is Australia’s first selective gold-plated coin produced by the Mint, with Thomas’ searing dreamscape a perfect showcase to illustrate the visual impact of this process.
