Captain Neville Howse, New South Wales Army Medical Corps, was the first, decorated for his bravery in saving a wounded soldier on 24 July 1900, in South Africa. Australia's three living VC winners today are Sir Roden Cutler, Edward Kenna and Keith Payne.
