1970 Proof Set

This six coin Proof Set includes the 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c and a commemorative 50c Australian coins. Proof is a method of manufacture, not condition or grade. These specially made coins are distinguished by sharpness of detail and usually with a brilliant mirror like surface. The 50c design commemorates the bicentenary of James Cook’s 1770 voyage. Based on a painting by John Webber. The inclusion of Cook’s signature was thought to be the first use of a facsimile signature on a coin.
